July 4th: Celebrating Independence with Fireworks, Parades, and Reflection

July 2, 2024

On July 4th, 2024, Independence Day in the United States will be celebrated, marking the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This federal holiday is a tribute to American freedom and patriotism, symbolizing the nation's founding principles of liberty, democracy, and the pursuit of happiness. The day is commemorated with various festivities such as fireworks, parades, concerts, and family gatherings, serving as a time for reflection on American history and the sacrifices made by the founding fathers and those who fought for independence. As a federal holiday, Independence Day will see the closure of government offices, postal services, banks, stock markets, and some retail stores and supermarkets. However, some businesses and services will remain open, including public transportation, trash and recycling services, parks and recreation, and restaurants and bars. Major banking operations across the country, including Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, CitiBank, and JPMorgan Chase branches, will be closed on July 4th. Post offices will also remain closed, with the exception of Priority Mail Express services. UPS services will not be available, except for UPS Express Critical, while FedEx's pickup and delivery services will be impacted. In terms of grocery stores, Walmart and Target will be open with regular operating hours on the Fourth of July, providing an option for last-minute grilling or pool needs. However, Costco will be closed on the holiday. Other retailers that will be open on Independence Day include Sam’s Club, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and H-E-B. Independence Day is a time for Americans to come together and celebrate, and while some services will be affected by the holiday, there will still be options available for those looking to shop or engage in recreational activities.
